Jukkasjärvi lies in the middle of the Talma sameby, which is one of the seven sameby economic associations in Kiruna municipality. Kyrkudden by the old wooden church and the Reindeer Lodge in Sautosjohka are the main bases of the Sami culture and activity company, Nutti Sámi Siida. The company is run by Nils Torbjörn Nutti, a reindeer herder from the Saarivuoma sameby and his partner, Carina Pingi, from Gabna sameby.

Here, the focus is on the reindeer, the Sami culture and Sami values. As a guest, you are given a close, genuine and thorough insight into the Sami culture and its traditions. The Sami guides describe and demonstrate the everyday life in reindeer herder, the nomadic lifestyle, and how the old traditions are being preserved.

At Kyrkudden by Jukkasjärvi’s old wooden church, lies the Sámi Siida open-air museum, where there is also a café and a small shop selling Sami craft products. Here, visitors can watch the reindeer, both in summer and winter, and in snow conditions go on short tours with reindeer-pulled sleds. In Sami Siida there is also an enormous traditional tent where traditional Sami meals are cooked over an open fire.

The Reindeer Lodge in Sautosjohka, which was opened in 2009, offers unique high-quality accommodation with Sami design and Lapland dining experiences for up to 16 guests. It also serves as the starting point for the long, reindeer sled tours of winter. In the summer Nutti Sámi Siida arranges Sami walking tours in the mountains northwest of Kiruna.

In 2011 Nutti Sámi Siida was awarded the prestigious Grand Travel Awards Ecotourism Prize, as the operator that best represented and developed Swedish ecotourism in the past year.
