Geunja Sami Eco Lodge – Lapplandsafari

Ted Logart

Geunja a secluded Sami Eco Lodge hideaway in the mountains. You will only find your way to Geunja by invitation from the Vinka family. To preserve nature and wildlife and to remain the nature as untouched as possible, the Vinka family only invites a few groups of guests every year to the Geunja mountain lodge, with a maximum of 12 guests each time. The income from visiting guests goes to protect and preserve the Sami buildings and caring efforts for nature and culture.

Geunja is an experience beyond ordinary luxury where you are guests embrace the Sami culture. This is not about crystal chandeliers or four-poster beds - but a deeper understanding and connection to the nature, culture and well-being. Having received the Swedish Royal family as guests, the Vinka family welcome guests to eat, sleep and learn about a traditional Sami life close to the arctic circle. Geunja has two cozy Sami designed log cabins up to 6 persons in each cabin. Every cabin is equipped with lovely handmade wooden furniture, commode, hand-woven mats, kerosene lamps and candles, and a fire place. Guests are also invited to sleep in a Sami goathie, a wooden "teepee". Imagine yourself lying on a reindeer hide, soothed by the crackling noise from the fire place.

For a total experience of Sami culture, good food and warm hospitality in majestic surroundings, Geunja was awarded the “Grand Travel Awards Ecotourism Prize” in 1999 and the WWF’s “Arctic Award” in 2001.
