Jokkmokkguiderna

“Knowledge-based tourism is quality tourism”, says Matti Holmgren, who runs the Jokkmokk guides just north of the Arctic Circle. Since an early age, dogs have been his life and they are a natural support to his profession as a mountain guide. For Matti, this isn't just a job; it's a way of life.

There are around 30 dogs in the kennels, along with a set of sleds and winter equipment, including kits for overnight stays. Matti is fascinated by the relationship between humans and dogs. ‘ Communication’ and ‘cooperation’ are his keywords. He works hard to allow each guest to have a personal relationship with the dogs - and he succeeds. Through careful breeding and training, Matti has created a harmonious, well-raised and loyal team of dogs that are a pleasure to meet. This company has had mainly international guests, many of whom return year after year. During the season they are based in the tiny hamlet of Saltoluokta, right on the edge of the majestic world of the Lapland mountains.
