Global award finalist from Lapland

Tourism for Tomorrow Awards 2014

Nature’s Best approved operators continue to make themselves seen and heard of around the world. Timber rafting on the wild and beautiful river Klarälven and the Forest Hermitage in the middle of the magic Holaved forest have already been awarded internationally, and earlier this year the village enterprise Lapland Vuollerim Welcomes You went to China as a finalist for the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.

The international summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council in Hainan was inaugurated by the vice President of China and gathered 800 delegates from all over the world. Tourism quality and sustainability for the Tourism of Tomorrow was on the agenda while a wide range of good examples in various countries were rewarded.

The Swedish village enterprise Lapland Vuollerim Welcomes You was the only Scandinavian finalist present in China, among 18 international finalists. The finalists were chosen after the jury had tested many of the different activities on offer and talked to customers and partners alike. Lapland Vuollerim won the jury members hearts for its strong local commitment and their wide range of unique activities including the Cloudberry festival, swimming in the midnight sun, bear watching and winter activities such as the Festival of a 1000 ice lanterns and “skijoring” behind a horse.

The jury was particularly impressed by the innovative “house hopping meals” where guests are invited for a three-course dinner at three different local homes. Hopping from a different house for starter, main course and then dessert is wonderfully representative of all the soupcons of sustainability on the Nature’s Best approved Lapland Vuollerim’s menu.

Nature’s Best approved operators continue to shine. Last year timber rafting on river Klarälven organized by Vildmark i Värmland won a place on the National Geographic 50 Tours of a Lifetime. In 2012, the Forest Hermitage built by Urnatur in the Holaveden forest was rewarded Best Example of an enterprise in tune with European nature by Business to Nature.
“We congratulate Lapland Vuollerim Welcomes You and feel very proud that yet another Nature’s Best operator has been awarded internationally. It shows that the companies’ hard work really pays off, and that ecotourism in Sweden is top of the line by international standards,” says Per Jiborn, Nature’s Best certification manager.
